🧠 Seller Word of the Day
🔥 Streak: 0
Guess today's Amazon seller term
New word drops at midnight. New post drops at 5am. See you tomorrow. ☕️

Here’s a stat that should bother you: Sponsored Brands Video averages a 0.89% CTR. Standard Sponsored Products average 0.35–0.70%. Same auction, same search page, often the same bid range — but nearly 3x the clicks.

If you’re brand-registered and running PPC, you have access to this format right now. Most sellers who have it turned off aren’t making a strategic choice. They just haven’t set it up.

What Sponsored Brands Video Actually Is

Sponsored Brands Video (SBV) is a 6–45 second video that appears as a standalone placement directly in Amazon search results — not a banner, not a sidebar. It sits in the feed, autoplay on mute, with your product name and price underneath.

It’s available to Brand Registry sellers only. You don’t need a polished ad agency video. You need a tight product demo that works with the sound off.

The placement matters. SBV occupies roughly half the screen on mobile — the same real estate a top organic result gets. A shopper searching for “insulated water bottle” sees your video playing as they scroll. That’s fundamentally different from a small thumbnail in a row of six products.

Why Most Sellers Skip It (And Why That’s a Mistake)

The excuses are predictable:

The real cost isn’t running SBV — it’s not running it. Every time a competitor’s video autoplays in the search results above your static thumbnail, they’re collecting clicks and brand impressions you’re not.

The 15-Second Video That Actually Converts

Amazon’s data shows 60% of viewers watch to completion when the video is under 18 seconds. The structure that performs best:

Captions are functionally mandatory. Amazon confirmed most viewers watch muted. Your video communicates nothing if it depends on audio.

Tip: Film your video in portrait orientation (9:16) — Amazon renders SBV in a 1:1 square on desktop and vertically on mobile. Widescreen footage gets letterboxed and looks amateur.

How to Set Up Your First SBV Campaign

In Amazon Ads console:

  1. Click Create campaign → Sponsored Brands
  2. Select Video as your ad format (not the banner/store spotlight option)
  3. Choose the single ASIN you want to feature — SBV campaigns are single-product by design
  4. Upload your video (MP4, max 500MB, 6–45 seconds, minimum 480p)
  5. Start with keyword targeting — use 10–15 exact-match keywords from your best-performing Sponsored Products campaign
  6. Set a starting bid 15% above your average Sponsored Products CPC and watch for the first 7 days

Run SBV as a separate campaign, not mixed with your static Sponsored Brands. Keeping campaigns clean means you can read the data clearly and optimize each format independently.

What to Watch in Week One

The three numbers that matter early:

If you’re running PPC on multiple ASINs, start with your best-converting product — the one with the most reviews and strongest images. SBV drives traffic efficiently; a weak listing will convert that traffic poorly regardless of the video quality.

One Thing to Do Today

Open your phone, put your product on a clean surface, and record a 15-second video showing it solving a problem. Don’t overthink the production. Upload it to Ads console today and have your first SBV campaign live by tomorrow. The sellers running video ads right now are scooping up clicks at a fraction of what a static ad costs per unit of attention — and most of them started with a phone video too.
